Before you order
Four-stroke engines forgive a lot, but not stale gas. A float bowl that sat all winter leaves a ring of varnish in the main jet, and the mower that should start on the first pull surges or refuses to idle. A fresh carburetor with its gaskets and a new plug is the cleanest fix, especially on Honda GCV190 and GCV160 engines, where the choke linkage wears at the same time.
Bigger machines need the same care. Kohler Courage riders pick up a new carburetor and a vacuum fuel pump, Generac GP portable generators take our 389cc carb kit, and the 14–22 kW standby units get a fresh 0J8478 air element before storm season. On zero-turn mowers, a leaky two-way shut-off valve is a ten-minute swap.

Yes — the 16100-Z0Y-M42 kit comes with the choke control spring and the thermo linkage parts for HRX217 K1 to K5.
Will the Generac GP carburetor fit a non-Generac 389cc generator?
It fits the 188F and 190F 389cc engines used by many 5 to 6.5 kW generators. Match the carb mounting bolt spacing and the fuel inlet side before ordering.
Which Kohler engines take the Courage 20 HP carb?
Single-cylinder SV470 to SV620 and CV490 to CV493, 16 to 22 HP. Twin-cylinder Courage engines use a different carburetor.
